The RoboCup 2002 Humanoid League

"One small step for a ROBOT,
 one giant leap for mankind."
TM

In RoboCup 2002, a new league will be started. It is a Humanoid League.
The goal of the RoboCup Humanoid League is to promote humanoid research using various benchmarks and multi-agent games (soccer, etc) that enable us to verify viability of technologies and to measure progress of the field objectively.
This is the league that will lead us to achieve the final goal of the RoboCup:

"to develop a team of fully autonomous humanoids
that can win against human world champion in soccer."

In 2002, for the first time in the history, humanoid will try to play soccer game. While not many research group can develop humanoid robots that can play an even simplest soccer game, the humanoid league will consists of several milestone benchmarks, as well as simple soccer like games, such as:

Type of Games:
  • Solo Games:
    • (A) Humanoid Walk
    • (B) Shoot
  • Match Games:
    • (A) Penalty Shoot
    • (B) Soccer Game
      1 vs. 1 (or 2 vs. 2, 3 vs. 3 if possible)

There are four categories of humanoid league based on approximate heights:
    • H-40: 40 cm class
    • H-80: 80 cm class
    • H-120: 120 cm class
    • H-180: 180 cm class

While the spirit of the RoboCup is to promote research at fastest pace, we can be quite flexible in details of humanoid design, as far as it is consistent with our spirit, so that certain variations in size beyond the current definition is allowed for 2002
