JapanOpen 2004 Osaka:
Industry-academic-government collaborations

RoboCup Japan Open 2004 was held at Intex Osaka in Osaka, on May 1st to 4th, 2004. 156 teams (Participants 551) of all the leagues are participated. The event attracted approx. 135,000 visitors. * RoboCup 2005 will be held at the same venue next year.

Rescue Robot League:

Rescue Robot League 2004 JapanOpen

Team "SHINOBI" with new robot "FUMA

Rescue Robot league attracted public attention. Osaka is close to Kobe, where the big earthquake hit 9 years ago.

Team "SHINOBI", collaboration of industry and academia: University of Electro-Communications and SGI Japan Ltd., won the first prize of the rescue robot league competition.

SGI Japan, an integrator of advanced IT solutions, is a subsidiary of Silicon Graphics Inc. which have been supporting the RoboCup since 2000. From 2003, SGI Japan Ltd. has dedicated itself especially to RoboCup
Rescue as a sponsor as well as a Rescue Robot league participant (Team SHINOBI) jointly with University of Electro-Communications team.

Humanoid League:
Visi'ON

Best humanoid awarded to Team Osaka's Visi'ON (green). Team Osaka is also a joint industry-academia team: Vistone Corp., Robo Garage at Kyoto University, Osaka University Graduate School of Engineering. "Visi'On", is targeting to win the championship at world championship, RoboCup 2005 Osaka.
